Care For The CaregiverAfter caring for our own aging parents, Gordie and I realized that the caregiver also needs special care and comfort for themselves. We decided that we would offer our home (The Appleton Inn), to caregivers for a restful getaway from their duties. In conjunction with agencies in the Fox valley, that can come in and take over for them while the caregivers rest. We will offer time at our home for respite and renewal. We also offer rooms for those people that are suffering from the loss of a loved one or have a relative or friend in critical care at the local hospitals. These special guests will be given a reduced rate and special care from us. Please consider giving this respite retreat as a gift for the special caregiver you may know.We offer this service for bereavement families that have suffered the ultimate loss of a loved one. When you ask yourself... “What can I do to help?”.... This gift of respite may be the ticket.

“A Room of One's Own” By Carole LeRoyWhen my children were small I yearned for a space where I could rest and just be me again. As women we need to recharge our batteries to enjoy our precious gift of motherhood. There is nothing like “A day for one's self.” If you have any creative juices they are drained dry by a busy day of motherhood. I know now at seventy two I have reclaimed myself. It wouldn't have taken as long if I would had a space to retreat and reflect. I have created that space for you. Please join me.
Mother's Respite RetreatThis winter we gave a special guest a mothers' getaway. She was a mother of five that had just reached her limit in care giving. Her husband sent her to us for the weekend to regroup. She just wanted some time alone to rest, recuperate and refresh her feelings about herself. We were happy to have her in our home and were gratified to see the reduction of her stress level after a couple of days just for herself.Another Mom was given a weekend at our home after she weaned her first child from nursing. She finally felt that she could spare time away for herself. The baby was in close proximity, yet mom was definitely alone and on her own. This mom was grateful for receiving this gift from a special friend. Being as close as a few miles from her baby, gave her the luxury to completely let go and rest. The REST is history. MOMS love it here.NO'sThis is what they like: No Responsibilities, Solace, Contemplation, Quiet, Privacy, No children, No cellphones, No computers, No runny noses,No “Mom, Mom, Mom!!!!!Time to think whatever thoughts they may have without interruption.TO'sTo be able to practice yoga, To walk, To read, To scrapbook, To quilt , To draw, To watercolor, To write, To wear their pj’s from dusk til dawn, To shower or not., To watch girlie movies, To listen to music, To cry or to pray...Please consider giving yourself a respite/retreat OR even better someone could give it to you as a gift. Quilting, Knitting, Art, Scrap-booking and Red HatsRetreats and classes AT The Appleton InnYears ago when I was actively quilting, I would go to a quilters' retreat at a local Scout Camp. We gathered as a group of forty women and quilted til-we-dropped. The camp had group showers, bunk beds, urinals with blue stinky floaters by the drain and was not the most convenient. We had to carry all of our supplies, irons, cutting boards and special chairs to this camp for comfort. It was at this camp that I noticed that the quilters gravitated to smaller groups of six or eight of their closer friends. That helped me make the decision to open my home to these smaller groups. Because my home is already outfitted with good lighting, great chairs, plenty of irons and ironing boards, I was more than equipped to create a “Quiltin Be” for them. Later I expanded to include knitters, scrap-bookers and women's retreats. All those that gather here giggle and giggle...It is mandatory for a visit.I have expanded to include classes on:•Long Arm Quilting•Basic beginner quilt making•Pencil drawing and portraits from photos•Woman’s Creative Discovery•Shop til you drop. A discovery of resale, and thrift stores. THERE are many here. You may bring your own instructor with you if you wish. You gather a group and we will create a weekend for you. The cost is $60/night per person based on double occupancy in a room and an added cost of $20/day for the work room. If you book the weekend, I will give you Thursday evening as a free night. Then on Friday you can hit the ground running (So to speak)! These prices are based on you running your own open sewing, scrap booking etc. I provide breakfast for the groups. A kitchen is available for your use and we are two blocks from many restaurants. If a class is given by me, I do charge for this on a hourly basis.Come Enjoy and Giggle, The REST is historyYou will meet Hattie Annie when you visit and can sit in the Woman cave, or the sun room in the summer.
